I’m Astralis Snee (they/them), Chilean-Italian, and a fairly recent member of Merritt and its Art Community.
I was born in Chile, cradled by the Andes Mountains and the nocturnal symphony of the southern constellations. At the age of 18, I left the nest to expand my horizons and ended up wandering in Europe and forging both work and life experiences before moving to Canada. My life has been from the beginning marked by irregularities and drastic changes, so in the midst of the chaos I had to find a way to stay afloat without losing hope, and that is what art has been for me; a constant in my life. Thanks to art I have managed to navigate through countless adventures, even those as simple as learning to answer questions about myself.
Art is an amazing means of connection. It builds bridges where before perhaps only silence and solitude dwelled, it gives and amplifies the voices of those unheard, and it is capable of building entire cities or reviving them and then preserving their heritage and importance. That is why it is an honour for me to be part of what pushes forward the heartbeat of a city as creative as Merritt, which has welcomed me with open arms and surprised me with how much its people are capable of giving.
I look forward to admiring and being part of the new projects that the Artistic Community has in its future.
