Summer Student Report 2024

The Nicola Valley Arts Council is pleased to present the highlights of another successful summer with our “Art in Motion” trailer. Our mobile art initiative has made a significant impact in our community by actively participating in local events, hosting engaging activities, and fostering creative partnerships.

Community Events

Throughout the summer of 2024, our “Art in Motion” trailer participated in 22 community events. These events allowed us to connect with residents of all ages and offer a diverse range of activities.

Highlights include:

Arts and Crafts: We provided materials and guided sessions that encouraged creativity and self- expression.

Face Painting + Glitter Tattoos: Children and adults alike enjoyed colorful designs, adding a festive touch to each event.

Bright Red Bookshelves: Our book-sharing initiative, along with Active Stories and Explore Art Literacy programs, allowed us to distribute free books, promoting literacy and a love for reading.

Dance and Games: Interactive dance sessions and games provided fun and entertainment for families.

Each event ranged from 10-40 people in attendance with approximately 75% children under the age of 12. Our largest turnout was Canada Day with over 150 people in attendance.

Crafty Kids

One of the summer’s standout features was our “Crafty Kids” program. Over nine Wednesdays, we offered engaging and imaginative craft activities designed for children. This program not only provided a platform for creative exploration but also fostered a sense of community and shared joy among participants.

Working Together

Our partnership with Literacy Merritt has been instrumental in strengthening literacy through community engagement. Together, we have supported book distribution and storytelling activities, fostering a love for reading and learning. The invaluable contributions of Literacy Merritt and their continued support have greatly enhanced our efforts to promote literacy and enrich our community.

Our collaboration with the school district this summer allowed us to work alongside some of the community's most dedicated educators. This partnership significantly enhanced students' creativity and engagement, and enabled us to reach a larger audience. By integrating art into educational experiences, we not only supported the creative development of students but also broadened the impact of our initiatives across the community.

Make it Beautiful

Our commitment to beautifying the community remains strong. This summer, we focused on painting murals and community art projects, which allowed us to engage with local artists and transform public spaces into vibrant works of art. These murals not only celebrate the rich artistic talent in our area but also foster a greater sense of community pride and connection.
